The APSI seeks to select a team of passionate and dedicated individuals to represent the organisation and its members as the 2024-2027 APSI National Team.

The APSI National Team is one united team consisting of all snowsport disciplines including Alpine, Snowboard, Telemark, Nordic and Adaptive. This team is the 'think tank' for new ideas and the development of our organisation. This group creates and shares positive learning experiences with APSI members and grows enthusiasm and excitement for snowsport and our industry.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

To apply for the 2024-2027 APSI National Team, applicants must:

  • Be a current APSI Member.
  • Be a citizen or resident of Australia with indefinite working rights.
  • Be employed with an Australian Ski Areas Association (ASAA) resort or other recognised school.
  • In the discipline you are applying, hold a minimum of Alpine Level 4 certification, Snowboard Level 3 certification, Telemark Level 3, Nordic Level 3, Adaptive Level 2.

SELECTION CRITERIA

Those selected for the team will be comfortable adapting to a variety of situations, subject matter, social settings, travel, and environments. Successful applicants will be leaders, or emerging leaders in the snowsport industry and performing similar functions at their home resorts or in their designated industry profession.

Successful applicants will be:

  • Team players with strong interpersonal skills who are invested in the APSI and its members.
  • An ambassador for the association who is respectful, professional, polite and can work with a variety of people in a positive manner.
  • Exceptional communicators in both verbal and written form.
  • Exceptional presenters on and off snow with the ability to present in front of large audiences.
  • Athletic with exceptional technical skills when skiing/riding.
  • Experts in a broad and diverse range of technical knowledge regarding skiing/riding, teaching and theory.
  • Able to experiment, change and challenge current ideologies.

 

COMMITMENT

Those selected for the APSI National Team will be required to:

  • Attend two days of orientation and training immediately after the on-snow selection (Mt. Buller - 28/29 August).
  • Attend a minimum of four days of APSI National Team training per Australian season (typically two days in August and two days immediately after Spring Sessions in September)
  • Conduct two days of Spring Sessions per season in September at Perisher.
  • Be available to operate Winter Week days and other professional development days for the APSI.
  • Contribute to discussions and assist with the creation of training resources such as teaching manuals, e-learning courses, teaching app content, etc.
  • Participate in APSI video and photo shoots when scheduled.
  • Be committed to the Australian industry and work with an ASAA resort until the end of 2027.
  • Take an active approach to fundraising by organising and assisting in the operation of team fundraising events.
  • Present and gather concepts at the 2027 Interski congress on behalf of the APSI and its members.
  • Work with the members to disseminate information throughout the training term and on return from Interski in 2027.

 

   

 

 

 

SELECTION PROCESS

The 2024-2027 APSI National Team will be selected in 2024. The selection process will consist of an initial application, an interview with the selection panel, and an on-snow selection. More information on each step of the process is outlined below:

 

INITIAL APPLICATION

Initial applications must be sent to nationalteam@apsi.net.au and be received by Sunday 30 June 2024. The initial application will consist of the following:

  • Expressions of Interest. This can be submitted in Written (max 500 words) OR Video (2–3min) form. The expression of interest should be a brief introduction including:
    • Brief involvement in the industry (history, certification, current domestic/international snowsports school etc.)
    • The skills and attributes the applicant plans to bring to the team.
    • The applicant’s future plans within the Australian Snowsports industry.
    • How APSI members will benefit from having the applicant on the APSI National team.
  • Creative contribution. Choose only one (1) of the below forms of media and use this medium to convey what you believe sets the APSI apart from other training organisations. 
    • A written article (≤ 500 words)
    • Multimedia/Video (≤ 3mins in length)
    • Powerpoint presentation
    • Webpage, Brochure or Podcast
  • Snowsports School Endorsement. As part of the initial application, the APSI will contact the applicant’s Australian Snowsports School Director to “endorse” the applicant as a positive member of the Snowsports community and suitable to represent the APSI and the Australian Industry. 

 

INTERVIEW

Successful applicants will be required to attend an Interview with the selection panel. Interviews will be conducted via Teams and take place in July 2024 (final dates to be determined). For the Interview, applicants will require access to a computer, a quiet space and strong internet access.

 

ON-SNOW SELECTION

The on-snow selection will be conducted at Mt. Buller on 26/27 August 2024.

  • The on-snow selection will be conducted over 2 days.
  • The on-snow selection will include a range of tasks allowing you to demonstrate your skiing/riding skills, presenting skills, technical and teaching knowledge, and ability to interact as a member of a team.
  • The selection logistics are subject to change, however applicants should anticipate spending two full days at the selection site. There may be cuts made during the on-snow process prior to naming the final team.

 

Important information

  • Travel, accommodation, and any other expense related to the application process is the responsibility of the applicant.
  • The APSI will provide lift tickets for the on-snow selection.
  • The APSI strongly recommends all applicants to engage suitable travel/medical insurance for the on-snow selection. The APSI will not be held liable for any injury or damage to equipment sustained during the on-snow selection.
  • Those selected for the final team will be required to attend APSI National Team orientation and training on the 28/29 August 2024. The APSI will provide accommodation on the nights of 28/29 August and will provide a reimbursement (up to the nightly accommodation allowance) for the night of the 27 August.
